CAS Faculty participate in CSSP Extramural Training Seminar for Social Sciences Teachers 2025

Three faculty members from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), Mrs. Eva C. Sasuluya, Mr. Ejay F. Barcinilla, and Mr. Pedro P. Turiano, represented Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC) at the prestigious CSSP Extramural Training Seminar for Social Science Teachers (CSSPEx) 2025, held on April 24โ€“25, 2025, at Pilar Herrera Hall, College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP), University of the Philippines Diliman.

The two-day event, themed โ€œEthics, Artificial Intelligence, and Knowledge Production: Navigating Challenges in Social Science Research,โ€ served as CSSPโ€™s flagship extension program to strengthen the teaching of social sciences in the K to 12 and General Education curricula.

One of the highlights was the keynote lecture delivered by Dr. Ma. Mercedes G. Planta, Professor of History, who discussed โ€œShaping the Future through the Past: Evolving Methodologies in Social Science Research.โ€

Drawing from her extensive research on traditional medicine and colonial public health practices in the Philippines, Dr. Planta emphasized the importance of historically grounded and culturally informed knowledge systems in shaping contemporary research methodologies, particularly in a rapidly evolving, AI-driven landscape.

The seminar also included a hands-on workshop on Oral History and Research Ethics, facilitated by Dr. Rhodalyn C. Wani-Obias. Participants were trained not only in conducting oral history research but also in addressing critical ethical issues, including data management, consent, and responsible scholarship.

The participation of Mrs. Sasuluya, Mr. Barcinilla, and Mr. Turiano marks CSPC-CASโ€™s continuing commitment to professional development and academic excellence, ensuring that its educators remain engaged with evolving trends in social science education.
