Two faculty members from the College of Tourism, Hospitality, and Business Management of Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges qualified as official participants in the international short- term course on Halal Food Standard Compliance on November 10-19, 2024 at Universitas Bakrie, Jakarta, Indonesia.
Dr. Norel Peter M. Illo and Mr. Mark Anthony L. Orobia joined 23 other trainees from different SUCs and private universities in the country to participate in the course as recipients of CHEDโs Continuing Professional Development Studies Grant. The short-term course is organized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), in collaboration with Universitas Bakrie, the Local Scholarship Office of the Philippines, and the Embassy of the Philippines in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was designed for faculty and staff engaged in curriculum development and institutional quality assurance, particularly those with a teaching background in food technology, agriculture, hospitality, tourism, hotel, and restaurant management at both undergraduate and graduate levels. As part of the program, the trainees attended lectures on the importance of halal food in the globalized era, the fundamentals of principles of Islamic laws on halal food, unlawful and doubtful materials, halal production, halal logistics and supply chain, and halal certification and requirements. The trainees visited halal production facilities to expose them to the actual production and management of halal food. The team, accompanied by two CHED officials, also paid courtesy visit to the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia during the first day of the training.
