The Training Workshop on Research Methods for Gender and Development Studies, organized by the Association of Scholarly Editors, was successfully held from February 22-24, 2024, at the VIP Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City. The event brought together researchers, administrators, educators, GAD coordinators, and representatives from State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the Philippines, fostering collaboration and advancing gender-focused research in the academic sector.
The workshop served as a platform for discussing the importance of research methods in Gender and Development (GAD) studies, providing participants with a comprehensive overview of the current state of GAD research in the country. Dr. Genaro V. Japos, a distinguished researcher, delivered insightful talks on various topics, including GAD research methods, accessing GAD studies within institutions, writing effective reviews of related literature (RRLs) for GAD, and building networks for funding and partnerships.
Participants explored diverse research methodologies and frameworks relevant to gender studies, gaining valuable insights into analyzing and interpreting gender data. The workshop emphasized the critical role of GAD research in shaping policies, developing programs, and advancing advocacy efforts aimed at achieving gender equality in the Philippines. The event also underscored the importance of ensuring accessibility to research, using context-specific agendas, and creating impactful RRLs.
The CSPC team seized the opportunity to network with organizers and other participants, laying the groundwork for potential partnerships and collaborative projects in future GAD research initiatives. Through these connections, CSPC continues to contribute to the national dialogue on gender equality, empowering stakeholders and fostering progress toward a more inclusive and equitable society.
