CSPC Board of Trustees approves CAS-led Research-Based Extension Projects under BURUNYOG Program

The Board of Trustees of Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC), during its 112th Regular Meeting on October 16, 2025, at Bicol University, Legazpi City, approved several research-based extension initiatives under the Collegeโ€™s flagship programsโ€”BURUNYOG (Building Unified and Resilient Communities Upholding Equality to Nourish Yielding Opportunities for Growth and Development) and MIDBID (Mobilizing Innovation in Driving Equity in Business and Industry to Develop Sustainable Futures).

Formalized through Board Resolution No. 2025-78, this approval reaffirms CSPCโ€™s commitment to research-driven community engagement and inclusive development. Two of the newly approved BURUNYOG projects come from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), both designed for three-year implementation to ensure long-term impact and sustained partnerships with local communities.

Leading one of the projects, Dr. Marlon S. Pontillas, Dean of CAS, spearheads โ€œWrite It Right: Grammar and Writing Skills Training for Junior High Learners,โ€ anchored on his published research, โ€œGrammar Skills as Predictors in Writing Composition Among College Freshmen Students.โ€ The project aims to strengthen learnersโ€™ grammar and writing proficiency through interactive workshops, peer-editing sessions, and practical writing activities.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mark Ronel R. Ocbian, MAEd, Head of the General Education Courses Department, leads Project BASIS (Basic Analysis and Statistical Insights Series), based on his study โ€œImproving Least Mastered Mathematical Skills Among Tertiary Education Students in Mathematics in the Modern World.โ€ This initiative enhances data literacy and analytical thinking by providing accessible training modules and distributing learning materials to underserved schools.

Both initiatives embody the essence of BURUNYOG, promoting unity, collaboration, and opportunity-building through research and extension synergy. Guided by the theme โ€œUnity in Knowledge, Opportunity for All,โ€ these projects demonstrate CSPCโ€™s continuing mission to transform academic research into meaningful community service that fosters inclusive and sustainable growth.
