The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) of Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC), in collaboration with Camarines Norte State College (CNSC), successfully conducted a research-based extension activity titled โTraining on Empowering GE Faculty through Understanding Language and Power Dynamics.โ
Held on November 22, 2024, at CNSC, this activity aimed to equip General Education (GE) faculty members with strategies to navigate language and power dynamics in online classrooms, fostering inclusivity and effective communication.
The training began with registration and opening formalities, including remarks by Dr. Marlon S. Pontillas, Dean of CAS at CSPC, and a statement of purpose by Extension Director Daisylyn D. Alano.
Dr. Jocelyn Trinidad, Dean of CAS at CNSC, delivered an inspiring message highlighting the importance of addressing power imbalances in education.
The sessions were anchored on research findings that explored the role of language in power dynamics and provided practical strategies for classroom management.
Dr. Marlon S. Pontillas led Session 1: Understanding Language and Power Dynamics in Online Classrooms, followed by an engaging open forum. Mr. Jo Vincent T. Bardaje, RPm, continued with Session 2: Practical Strategies for Addressing Language and Power Dynamics in Online Classrooms.
The afternoon sessions featured innovative approaches to learner engagement. Mr. Ejay F. Barcinilla, MAEd, discussed Engaging Learners through Balanced Classroom Dynamics, while Mr. Dan Fereth B. Fajardo, MAEd, explored Case Studies and Best Practices in Online Classroom Dynamics. Participants actively engaged in reflection and feedback sessions, fostering collaboration and exchange of ideas.
This extension activity underscores CSPC and CNSCโs commitment to empowering educators through research-based solutions to modern challenges in education.
The event concluded with closing remarks, outlining steps for sustaining the impact of the training, ensuring a continued positive influence on teaching practices.
