Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC) Auditoriumโ€”On August 29, 2024, the CSPC hosted an extension program titled โ€œNurturing the Self and Cultivating Mental Health Through Supportive Relationships,โ€ which brought together 50 youth participants from Unbound Legaspi Incorporated.
Led by subproject coordinator Ms. Maria Dolores Maronilla, the event emphasized the crucial role of supportive relationships in promoting mental well-being and personal resilience.
Organized by the College of Arts and Sciences, the program aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of the importance of fostering a healthy relationship with oneself and cultivating strong connections with others.
The initiative highlighted how these relationships serve as a foundation for enhancing mental health and building resilience, especially in today’s fast-paced world.
The event commenced with a welcome message from Dr. Marlon S. Pontillas, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, followed by a statement of purpose from Ms. Daisylen D. Alano, Director of the Center for Extension and Community Services.
Both speakers underscored the significance of the event in fulfilling CSPCโ€™s mission of community engagement and holistic development.
The first session, delivered by Jo Vincent T. Bardaje, RPm, a core faculty member of the College of Arts and Sciences, was titled โ€œKapamilya, Dabarkads, Kapuso at Ako: Interpersonal Relationships in Context.โ€ Bardaje explored the impact of familial, friendly, and romantic relationships on mental health, offering insights into how these bonds shape emotional well-being.
Following this, Eva C. Sasuluya, RGC, also a core faculty member, presented โ€œPag-Ataman sa Sadiri: Strategies for Stress Management and Mental Resilience.โ€ Her talk provided participants with practical tools for managing stress and nurturing mental resilience, emphasizing self-care as a key element of mental well-being.
To further enhance learning, members of the United Students Association of Human Services facilitated hands-on workshops, allowing participants to actively engage in activities that reinforced the importance of self-care and the development of supportive relationships.
The program concluded with participants gaining valuable knowledge and skills to better navigate their personal and interpersonal challenges, which is in line with CSPCโ€™s commitment to promoting mental health and well-being through meaningful community outreach.
