Nursing student enters top 30 of international speech tourney
Noreen Shain Serrano, a fourth-year BS Nursing student of Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, qualified for the next round of the 2021 Student English Speech Competition sponsored by the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) after making it to the top 30 of the said competition.
As the first edition to be held virtually, this year’s tilt aims to provide the participants with an opportunity “to gain substantial experience, showcase their skills and uncover personal aptitude,” AUAP explained in a Facebook post.
Joining Serrano are other students from various universities across Asia, including Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, and Thailand. Other qualifiers from the Philippines hail from Far Eastern University – Institute of Education, University of Santo Tomas, and Lyceum of the Philippines University, to name a few.
Initially, Serrano bested fellow CSPCeans in a virtual institutional elimination to pick the College’s representative. It was led by a screening committee composed of Dr. Marlon Pontillas, Ms. Janessa Angustia Malaya, and Mr. Mark Philip Paderan.
As a qualifier, she will proceed to the next phase of the competition – a live speech delivery which will be done online on September 21, 2021 to determine the top 15 contestants. The final round is scheduled for the following day.
