CRD- REB holds workshop on preparing research

Ethics has become commonplace in research to protect human participants’ welfare, safety, rights, and integrity of scientific findings. The Research Ethics Board (REB), headed by its Director, Prof. Ruby Jane Gonzales, conducts various capacity-building activities for the committee and the researchers.

On April 8, 2022, the REB conducted a workshop on preparing research that aims to demonstrate the characteristics of an ethically-sound research ethics protocol and how to gain informed consent from study participants, which is a critical component of research ethics.

Together with the institution’s faculty members and the Research Ethics Board, Ms. Kezia Abigael T. Velasco, Vice-Chair, Engr. Edna P. Montañez, member and Secretary, Mr. Niño Jeffrey L. Luzon, Mrs. Emilda E. Escolano, Dr. Maria Visitacion M. Taburnal, and Engr. Keith Marlon R. Tabal, regular members; Mr. John Mykelle H. Lumabe and Mrs. Grace E. Pacer, alternate members; Ms. Edelyn N. Nales, regular member; and Ms. Eva Sasaluya, alternate member, the REB achieved its goal to provide researchers with guidance on how to select study participants fairly and acquire informed permission. The activity also teaches the researchers to structure research techniques to reflect ethical research standards.
