Pres. Choy shares CSPC’s initiatives to cope with COVID pandemic as resource speaker in DOST-PCIEERD’s 10th Anniv

The Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges’ President, Dr. Charlito P. Cadag, was one of the resource speakers in the seventh installment of the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development’s (DOST-PCIEERD) webinar series with the theme “Lab in the time of COVID: How laboratory standards and practices are challenged in the Covid-Induced New Normal”.

Said webinar was held on October 13, 2020 in celebration of DOST-PCIEERD’s 10th Anniversary via Zoom and was simultaneously aired on Facebook Live. In his speech, Pres Choy cited the standard biosafety practices of CSPC in coping with the new normal. “During this trying time, Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges ensure that it will remain responsive to the needs of the community “, he stated.

In addition, Pres Choy mentioned the BCIEERD-funded Portable Perlite Expander Machine for Small-Scale Industries. “Production of perlite is costly for small-scale industries, but perlite is abundant in the Municipality of Baao, Camarines Sur, Philippines. Common perlite expander machines are costly and large enough to produce tons of perlite, which is impossible for small-scale industries to purchase”, he said. He later introduced the E-Governance team of CSPC who developed six systems, namely: Legislative Management and Tracking System (LeMTrac), e-Building Permit System (eBPS), e-Business Permit and Licensing System (eBPLS), Interoperable ID System (IIDS), Point of Payment System (PoPS), Real Property Assessment and Tax Management System (RPATs).

The Dean of the College of Computer Studies (CCS) served as the project head of the e-Governance project. Dr. Cadag was one among the seven resource speakers of the event which included: Dr. Annabelle V. Briones (Director, Industrial Technology Development Institute – Department of Science and Technology), Dr. Anthony Sales CESO III (Regional Director, Department of Science and Technology XI), Ms. Pinky Fe Tobiano (Chief Executive Officer, Qualibet Testing Service), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deo Florence L. Onda (Deputy Director for Research Marine Science Institute of University of the Philippines Diliman), and Mr. Angel Barnes, Jr. (Professional Service of 3M Philippines). The e-Governance System, particularly the IIDS, was utilized by the Local Government Unit of Nabua.
The said system generated the expected list of beneficiaries for the distribution of emergency cash subsidy under the government’s social amelioration program or SAP, and in identifying affected tricycle drivers this pandemic. It served as a tool for an efficient delivery of basic services to LGU Nabua’s clients and stakeholders.

The creation and implementation of the Portable Perlite Expander Machine for Small-Scale Industries project (authored by Director Harold Jan Terano) and the e-Governance Systems (with Dean Challiz Omorog as Project Leader), and the institution being the base-agency of the Bicol Consortium for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology made CSPC grab the “Kabalikat Newbie Academe Award 2020”.
