CRD holds training workshop on Research Ethics

The Center for Research Development (CRD) of Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC) together with the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST- PCHRD), hosted the two-day online training on Basic Research Ethics Workshop last August 25-26, 2020 via zoom.

The Research Ethics trainers from PHREB, Dr. Ruben C. Mendoza and Professor Peter A. Sy gave the plenary lectures. They are also affiliated with the Committee on Information Dissemination, Training, and Advocacy.

The morning of the first day featured the discussion on “Ethics and Research”, “Defining Research Ethics Principles”, and “Favorable Benefits and Risks Ratio”. In the afternoon, the subjects tackled were about “Preparing an Adequate and Appropriate Informed Consent Process Form”, followed by a small group work on Obtaining Informed Consent (Analyzing a scenario) and an Individual Activity on “Informed Consent Assessment Form”

In the morning of the second day, participants actively participated in the discussion about “Protecting Vulnerability in Research” and Selecting Research Subjects Fairly, and Qualified Researcher”. Afterwards, there was a discussion forum on “Hindrances in becoming an Ethical Researcher.”

The said training was concluded with the lessons on “International and National Guidelines”, “Navigating the Ethics Review Process”, followed by an open forum on the remaining issues, summary, and evaluation of activities.

The training workshop’s objectives are to gain knowledge on the basic ethics in conducting research, capacitate participants on the procedure of research ethics review, and promote an environment of cooperation to produce ethically sound research outputs.
