SPARK wins big in 18th RTSPC

The SPARK: The Official Student-Community Publication of Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges dominated the 18th Region V Tertiary Schools Press Conference (RTSPC) held at Villa Isabel Hotel, Sorsogon City on December 11 to 13, 2017 spearheaded by the Bicol Association of Tertiary Schools Publication Advisers (BATSPA).

In the individual contests, Gene Harvey Amoroso won 2nd Place in Development Communication Writing (Filipino) and 3rd Place in Photojournalism (English); Wilson Molina, 4th in Poetry Writing (Filipino) and 8th in Feature Writing (Filipino); Jomar Onding, 5th Place in Sports Writing (English); Carl Anthony Gorgonia, 7th Place in Photojournalism (Filipino); Jerry James Siocson, 7th Place in Sports Writing (Filipino); Reinel Aris Pacardo, 8th Place in Comics Strip Drawing (Filipino); and Ivy Joy Posugac, 9th Place in News Writing (Filipino). Amoroso, Molina, and Onding qualified for the Luzonwide Higher Education Press Conference which will be held in February 2018 at Baguio City.

The publication likewise showed prowess in group competitions as they clinched the following awards in the magazine category: 1st Place in Best Magazine (Overall), Best Opinion Page, Best News Page, and Best Development Communication Page; 2nd Place in Best Sports Page, Best Page Design, and Best Cover Design; 4th Place in Best Literary Page; 5th Place in Best Editorial Page; and 8th Place in Best Feature Page.

For the newsletter category, they won 7th Place in Best Newsletter (Overall), 3rd Place in Best Page Design and Best Editorial Page, 5,5th Place in Best Feature Page and Best News Page, 8th Place in Best Opinion Page, and 10th Place in Best Literary Page.

Meanwhile, staffers also reigned supreme in the Search for Mr. and Ms. RTSPC 2017 with Carmi Nena Cestina winning as 1st Runner-up, the People’s Choice Award, Ms. Photogenic and Ms. Congeniality. Likewise, Ian Benedict Faller was hailed 2nd Runner-up and received the People’s Choice Award and was named Mr. Photogenic.

Mr. Marlon S. Pontillas, Publication Moderator, was elected as BATSPA Public Information Officer while Cestina was delegated to be the Secretary of the Bicol Association of Student Campus Journalists.
