Pres. Atian signs MOA on Free Tuition Act

Dr. Dulce F. Atian, College President, took part in the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) held on June 13, 2018 at the Rizal Hall of Malacañan Palace.

She was among the heads of 112 State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and 78 Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) who were present to sign the agreement which launched the implementation of Republic Act No. 10931, otherwise known as the “Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.”

The event was graced by no less than President Rodrigo Roa Duterte who afterwards addressed the crowd consisted of the HEI representatives, CHED and Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UniFAST) officials, and government personalities.

“Indeed, free quality tertiary education is a significant step towards building the capacity of our people, most particularly in improving the life of the underprivileged and the marginalized Filipinos,” he said.

On August 3, 2017, President Duterte signed RA 10931 into law which promulgates the government to shoulder the tuition and other fees of students enrolled in various SUCs, LUCs, and duly registered technical-vocational education and training programs.

Forty billion will be alloted for SUCs and the sharing per SUCs will be determined on a later date.
